PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE
This was it; our final location visit, and a place we planned as no. 80 months ago. Nested atop the gorgeous rolling hills of Natirar Park is the Mansion built in the early 1900s by wealthy New York City couple Kate Macy and Walter Ladd. Decades later, the property was sold to the King of Morocco who privately owned the entire Natirar property as a private residence before selling it to Somerset County for a cool $22 million in 2003.
The original carriage house behind the mansion was reimagined as Ninety Acres, a farm to table restaurant frequently regarded as one of the best food destinations in the state. It was here that we ended our project with a meal that transcends description and was the perfect bookend to 10 months of research and travel, a project that we still acknowledge is completely silly in its intent but one which gave us a look at our state that we will remember and appreciate for the rest of our lives.
