There are few New Jersey landmarks more instantly recognizable and well-known than the monument atop High Point State Park in Montague.

The northern tip of the state is just stunning— twisting roads, large swaths of forest, quiet farms, dramatic vistas. The monument offers a stunning panoramic view, and the rest of the park offers plenty of hiking, picnicking, and natural beauty worthy of the fame it has earned.

We visited in late fall, well past leaf-peeping season, but found the burnt colors of autumn's end to be just perfect for a gentle walk.
